Kyrb Grinder - What About Me demo
Written by Charlie O'Mara

Wow, heavy! This lot shocked the Classic Rock Society the other weekend when they opened for pub-proggers Jadis. Not what the crowd were expecting, but made a few friends amongst the more open minded and heavy headed onlookers. Threshold drummer Johannes James plays drums and sings the vocals, but a shy retiring Phil Collins he ain't! The sound of this band has been described as Kings X meets a sledgehammer, but there's some Tool in there too, as well as a slap of Living Colour and some power thrash as well. There's plenty of power in these 10 tracks, but there's also melody, emotion and excellent technique as well.

Johannes drums dominate the mix as expected, it would be a waste of a phenomenal talent to do anything different, but that's not to belittle Dave Lugay's bass lines that give the sound it's funky feel, while ex-guitarist Ben Glover provided the thrashy licks.

Stand out tracks would be The Guide, What About Me, I Wanna Kill and Monster.
