Nautilus - What Colours The Sky In Your World?
Written by Charlie O'Mara

Nautilus "What Colours The Sky In Your World?"

Nautilus are a new instrumental prog band from Canterbury in Kent, formed, according to their bio, from former members of Kent experimental bands U-Boat and Nostromo. Initially the band released a single Garden Gnome b/w Dog's Dinner which apparently sounded like the bastard child of an orgy with David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Deep Purple and the Cardiacs. That's an orgy I'd pay NOT to see! The single garnished some airplay on BBC Radio 6's Freak Zone.

nautilusSo onto their self-financed and self-released album; What Colours The Sky In Your World?

Now, as anyone who knows me, and I'm sure you all do, will tell you, I'm not a great fan of "The Canterbury Scene" though I know that some of you older readers out there are, so I was a bit apprehensive as I listened to the CD for the first time.

As I said earlier, this is an all instrumental release, which I'm pleased to say works well. The band don't have the characteristic Canterbury sound. The album shows great promise, especially on Cabin Fever and the excellent Halloween Factory.

The band are currently working on new material for their second album, and I can't wait to hear it!
