Snapper Records originally released Recordings as a limited edition back in 2001, but it has been out of print for a while now. KScope have now re-issued the album, allowing newer fans of Porcupine Tree to sample it's delights.
Porcupine Tree are never short of material, and normally have several decent tracks left over after an album has been released. After Fear Of A Blank Planet came out, the excellent Nil Recurring EP followed it with four tracks that could easily have fitted alongside the original release. For The Incident, the band decided to incorporate the remaining tracks on a second "bonus" disc.
However, back in the Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun era, the band were still putting out singles, and many of these tracks ended up as b-sides. Many people, such as original Silhobbit reviewer Lesley Ferdinand, felt that these tracks were as good, if not better than some of the more commercial tunes that made the albums.
Alongside the b-sides are 2 tracks that were new at the time, Buying New Soul and Access Denied. But in truth, although there isn't anything of the calibre of Drown With Me, there isn't a bad track here. And the whole collection is made all the more worthwhile by having the complete version of Even Less on it.
If you missed out on the original release, and can't afford the incredible prices on ebay (when they come up), then this is the copy to get!
- Buying New Soul (10.24)
- Access Denied (3.35)
- Cure For Optimism (6.11)
- Untitled (8.53)
- Disappear (3.37)
- Ambulance Chasing (6.32)
- In Formaldehyde (5.19)
- Even Less - full length version (13.55)
- Oceans Have No Memory (3.06)
The album is available from Burning Shed for £11.99

Comment by Lesley Ferdinand on 2010-11-13 15:31:57 I'm glad to see it being reissued. Should bump the price of my original signed copy up nicely! |
