Two years ago, Riverside frontman Mariusz Duda released his first solo album under the name of Lunatic Soul. That album allowed Mariusz to step away from Riverside's Prog Metal zone into a more considered, and deeply dark, ambient area.
Lunatic Soul II continues along that path, bringing us another 51 minutes of excellently written, played, recorded and produced atmospheric prog spread among 9 tracks.
As with most albums in this vein, it's the off kilter tracks that can make or break it. And for me that track is Escape From ParadIce, which saunters along on it's Eastern based percussion. It also serves as a build up into the 11 minute slow burn of Transition, while album closer Wanderings is simply a great song.
There is an undeniable beauty about this album, and it seems that Lunatic Soul have found their spiritual home on KScope alongside such soul mates as Steven Wilson, Anathema, North Atlantic Oscillation and the like.
