EDITORIAL

Well hello again chums, it seems that summer is finally here cos I'm sitting in the garden while I'm writing this. And I'm not cold or even getting wet.

A New Era?

So, we've gotten ourselves a new government. Eventually. For now, at least, anyway. Tons and tonnes have been written by every Tom, Dick and Internet Harry over the last fortnight about how it's a good thing / how it's a bad thing, but let's face the truth. None of them politicians know what they're doing, so as long as they keep their so called "well intentioned" noses out of our music we'll get along fine.

Is it just me, or are these Prime Ministers getting younger!

I found out the other day that I am older than the new PM David Cam'ron. Now that may be a good thing if, like me, he grew up listening to Marillion, IQ, Pendragon, Pallas, Twelfth Night and the rest. However I reckon I have more prog in my music collection than he does. Maybe, at most, he'll have Pink Floyd's classic Dark Side Of The Moon, probably that he listened to once on the only occasion that he got stoned. But he's bound to have stuff by Dire Straits, Simply Red and UB40 at home, though he strikes me as a "Greatest Hits" kinda guy.

What Else?

Next month sees the start of the Football World Cup of Football. It all kicks off on Friday 11th June when hosts South Africa lose to Mexico and France lose to Uruguay. I'll obviously be following England til they get knocked out in the quarter finals when I'll switch allegiance to the Dutch. However when half of their squad get in a strop over haircuts and lose in the semis I'll back Spain against Argentina in the final.

So who is supporting who? Check out our handy "cut out n'keep" guide:

Gong France Stream of Passion
Stream of Passion (right) Mexico
Spock's Beard / Dream Theater USA
Harvest Spain
It Bites / Galahad England
RPWL / Sylvan Germany
The Watch Italy
PBII / Kramer / Mangrove Netherlands
Factory of Dreams Portugal
Celtic Frost Switzerland
Unitopia Australia
Pallas Everyone except England

And...

Sophie Reade

Also back at around the same time is the final series of Big Brother. After this year, no more will we be able to watch the creme of the British education system get their well merited 15 minutes of fame, whilst teaching us the art of inter personal relationships, the skill of man management, the mystery of cooking and the ology of geograph.

I did send in a suggestion to Endomol and Channel 4 on how to spice up the final series bit I think they thought the addition of a sniper on Eviction Night was a bit too "way out there" even for them.

I just hope that someone with the class and front of last years winner Sophie Reade comes up trumps again.

And finally...

Festival season is here again! Unfortunately this seems to be coinciding with some decent weather which may lead some of you out there to start to dress inappropriately.

Remember, we're prog fans and as such should refrain from what others call "summer wear".

Heavy jeans, trainers and black t-shirts should be warn at all times, though jackets may be removed in extreme situations. An ill fitting baseball cap is also recommended. And the same goes for the guys out there, though imaginatively patterned short may be worn, occasionally.

Let's remember who we are, and be sensibles this summer!
