CRYING JESTERS are one of those bands who seem to have been around for
ever, without actually releasing anything. But that wait now appaers to
be over, with this live album, recorded in Italy in June '89. Now
whatever you may think of CRYING JESTERS and their supposed MARILLION
influences, it can hardly be denied that MARILLION have softened down
their original hardcore approach to PROG music, thus leaving the
platform of punters they once wowed in need of some good, long,
orchestrial, theatric PROG! This is where the JESTERS can clean up. Songs
such as 'CELLULOID DEVELOPMENT', the. storming 'MIRROR IN A
MIRROR' ,
and all 22 minutes 41 seconds of 'CORNELIUS TIMEGATE' do not
compromise,
pander to pop sensibilities, or crawl cap-in hat to record companies
looking for the next MARALLION. A track such as the closing (and crowd
favourite) 'BORDER COUNTRYMAN' can only be veiwed with admiration for
its full blown inability to have anything to do with '90s music. You
know you love it, SO GO OUT AND BUY IT!!! Review
