| Well
what can I say about this lot. Well in my own opinion they are one of
Britain’s best kept secrets. The band originate from Croydon, South
London, and have supported such bands as LUSH, SLOWDIVE and WE'RE GOING TO
EAT YOU to name just a few. The
band are signed to a fairly small independent label called "BIG CAT
RECORDS”, which also have singer song writer, named HEATHER FRITH, who
could be compared to JONI MITCHELL. FAITH
OVER REASON's sound is a cross between folk and indie music, which is a
great cross over, which really works well when playing live. Their sound
is very quiet in places, and quite hard in others in songs such as
"MOVE CLOSER”. They do rely heavily on MORIA LAMBERT's acoustic
solo songs, during the set. And also when things go wrong, eg broken
strings which are inevitable. But when things like this do happen or even
a solo feature in the set, she certainly possess one hell of a voice.
Personally the band lack confidence at playing live, as I would say at a
rough guess, when they started back in 1989, they have only played about
40 to 50 shows. The biggest gig FAITH OVER REASON have played, was when
they supported JULIE CRUISE at the London Palladium back in February
earlier this year. In
my own opion, they should try to get a better management deal who would
push them a bit more. As they certainly have the musical talent and
creativity, which isn't bad for a band these days. At
a guess, I would say their average age would be 23, which again, is on
their side. I can see this lot if encouraged more by the media, record
company's and radio producers could become a house hold name! FAITH
OVER REASON have appeared on a few radio progammes over the years such as
RICHARD SKINNER's Saturday sequence, GARY CROWLEY's GLR show, and even
some airplay on the BBC WORLD SERVICE. Well I hope I’ve given you enough
information for to check them out, as they are in my eyes a little
special. If you would like to know any more information about FAITH OVER
REASON please write to:-
