Pointer is a hard bastard when it comes to life and music. He can't slag
off Silhobbit because if he was a baker then we'd take away his oven,
and he knows this. Three prog bands were putting their necks on the
prog-rock cuffing block and they knew that prog's own weasle, the beady
Marvin Orford was casting a critical eye on the proceedings...
Revelation
kicked off the evening with a blinkingly youthful set. There are about
six bands using the name Revelation and this doesn't do the band any
favours, especially if people mix them up with one particularly poor
band called Revelation (not to be confused with Revelation). Martin
Orford, prog's own weasel, thinks that they should change their name to
'Revelations' to avoid any mix-up. Anyway, Revelation played stuff from
their excellent 'Addicted' CD, including the crowd favourites 'Free
Wheeling' and 'Wicked Woman' both exceeding the respected 10 minute
barrier. The band are doing a tour at the moment and I see no reason why
they won't go a long way with such a young talent. If you want to get a
gig list or CD then contact their manager at 0171-371-4317
Landmarq
haven't had a good deal in Silhobbit in the past and have bean
criticised for being weak and pandering to the needs of girls. Whilst
their style of prog does appeal to girls and young men of sexual
questionability, their is no doubt that names such as ‘Blandmarq' and
even crueler names like 'Wankmarq' have now reached the stage where they
cease to amuse. Whilst I must admit that their 3 CD’s all have some
cack bits they also have some very good songs, which they played
tonight. This time I was persuaded to give the boys a chance and give
the ugliest band in prog a fair chance. Landmarq were excellent and I
really enjoyed their show. They had very good sound and Damian does
indeed have a voice that can be described as incredible. The moment for
me was the track 'Infinate Parade' which was most uplifting and stuff.
Landmarqs future looks uncertain and it looks likely that their next CD
may not be an SI release
Arena
are the 'meat and two veg' of prog and everyone knows who they are. They
are now in the hands of top tour manager greasy Alan, who does a slick
job of making sure the lads are on stage on time and off on time as
well. Alan also has to be certain that the band all go for a piss before
they start after the unfortunate incident with Mick at Rotherham. Arena
did perform very well although the sound quality took away their
stunning playing ability. John Jowlet put on a fine first performance
and is a good replacement for Cliff Arsi, who must never be forgotten as
their bass player who played with passion and wore hats. Whilst Carson
will be remembered for being as mad as a beef salad, Arsi will be
remembered for being cool. The band played all the long stuff from their
album. Outstanding guitarist Keith Moore (who pisses over other
guitarists) did an excellent solo spot showing why he will win the best
guitarist at this year's Classic Rock Awards. The end bit of 'Grendle'
and 'He Knows You Know' was a crowd pleaser although the band should've
played some new stuff, although this made difficult when musicians keep
getting asked to leave. An excellent show by a brilliant band, even if
the sound was cack.
All
in all it was a great evening's entertainment. Many celebs turned up
including the lovely Tracey Hitchens, Fudge Smith, Shadowland's Ian
Salmon, and Lionel from 'Jesters Mask'. E-Mail
the bands on the following numbers; |
