Starcrossed is Grey Lady Downs last album in their current line up, with Martin Wilson and Mark Westworth having left a few weeks ago. Musically, the album is a corker, harking back to the old "like Marillion" days, with plenty of umpah-umpah, and a fair smattering of prog-powerchords and enough widdley-diddleys to keep you progheads realing for months to come. Unfortunately, the CD is let down in the vocals. I don't know if it is because Martin's voice isn't to my likening, or that the vocals were produced badly, or what. I don't know. But I don't like them - didn't like them on their first demo tape way back in 1991 either. But that's prog for you, isn't it. All the best vocalist get snazzled for other thngs.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this album, but with more work on the vocals, it could have been special.
