Krel

If you like Hawkwind or 80s Porcupine Tree
then this is right up your psychedelic-street.
I have an affinity with space-rock. Longhaired, mushroom loving, VW Camper van driving hippies wearing dirty clothes shows a complete disrespect of the respectful - and I like that. The keyboard player is called Floyd and there is not a musician with short hair insight. These guys rock and I'd be totally disappointed if one of them worked in a bank. I want this band to live off the land and live for the music and not wash for a week. This album is a collection of studio and live recordings. There are five musicians and (in true Hawkwind style) they've got two dancers/mimers. How cool is it to credit two dancers on an album - very cool. Younger music lovers who are unfamiliar with bands like the Ozric Tentacles or Hawkwind let me give you a quick guide as to what Space Rock is... swirling keyboards (analogue synths), repeating bass riffs, lyrics about galactical stuff or drugs, steady rhythm, chugging guitar, together with voice samples and special effects... and you've got a mash monstering swirl of mesmeric music that pulls you into a hypnotheterical jamboree. Some songs might have a wash of sound underpinning some gentle piano chords (Great gig in the Sky) Krel do this very well indeed. This CD is highly recommended and grab any chance to see this band (and their dancers) live. At Silhobbit.com we chuck out a lot of crap CDs we get sent. This one will stay in my VW Campervan for a long time... now where are my rizlas. |
