So Tinyfish. We've spoken about them a bit, we've played at least one of their tracks on a podcast, and have waited patiently for an album. Well, the band decided to cut themselves a short EP to promote themselves and gave them away at the recent Summers End festival at the Robin. We managed to get our grubby hands on a copy. Motorville opens the CD up - a different version to the finished album version - -and shows the band in fine form. Neat modern British prog rock in the style of an IQ blended with the more keyboard dominatedness of a Frost. Motorville must be their favourite song and I guess a cornerstone on the forthcoming album. Hand in Hand shows a different, slower side to the band, from what I remember, this track isn't going to be on the album as they feel it doesn't fit in with the rest of it. However, I can see this song becoming a live favourite, possibly played at the end of the night! Nine Months On Fire closes this mother down and starts off as being the heaviest track on the EP. But as this is Prog Rock, it soon mellows down again. So, what do these three tracks tell us? Well, they show a band with a great deal of promise, decent song writing, great playing and vocals which are spot on. I can't wait for the album to eke it's way out, and I hope that they can manage more than the one. |
