The Column of
Columns
|
 |
| Welcome back
fans to my popular column, thanks for all your emails. No Mercy
No Mercy, the next major
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) event, includes the first
father versus daughter match as WWE big boss Vince McMahon takes
on real life daughter Stephanie McMahon, general manager of the
Thursday night Smackdown show. The loser must quit their job, at
least until their dramatic comeback sometime
in the future. |
 |

 |
Sanctioned!
Vince made the match with
Stephanie after, against his wishes, she sanctioned a WWE title
match at No Mercy between Brock Lesnar, present champion with
Vince's help, and The Undertaker. Vince, probably the best and
certainly the most complex WWE villain of all in his company,
tried to persuade Stephanie to cancel the Lesnar-Undertaker
match last week. Stephanie wouldn't back down, leading to Vince
speaking with crazed and almost religious fervour of his status
and "striking down the face of defiance".
This week Stephanie
suggested that the McMahon's are a more dysfunctional family
than most. She could be right.

| Electrocuted!
Kane has the look
of someone who could be heavily into sadistic bondage,
even without his mask, and he narrowly failed to
electrocute Shane McMahon's testicles after tying him up
and wiring up the aforementioned sacks to a car battery.
Not that I suspect this particular move to be popular
among bondage lovers. Anyway, fortunately for Shane's
future fatherhood prospects, which Kane certainly wasn't
trying to jump start, Rob Van Dam came in to make the
save. |
 |
|
| Testicles Another wild event
in the Shane-Kane feud was Shane's nonsensical, but hugely
impressive, attempt to pulverise Kane by leaping on him
from about 25 feet above!
Shane missed his
target and went through the floor. This left him in
hospital where his less than sympathetic opponent soon
arrived to give him a severe pasting. |

One Legged Wonder
There have also been
shocking goings on perpetrated by once evil, then good, now
double crossing and evil Brock Lesnar. The presently
evil Lesnar
unleashed a savage and merciless attack on single legged
wrestler Zach Gowen in an attempt to break the leg and put Gowen
out of wrestling. Gowen's mother looked on in the front row as
the attack took place and hurled some scathing insults at Lesnar
in response. Whether he was hurt by these was unclear.
The
Urbane/Arm Band's John Mitchell described Lesnar's attack as the
most debauched thing he had ever seen, which is saying something
indeed.

| Angle v Cena As well as probably being
the best technical wrestler in the WWE, former Olympic gold
medallist and 4 time WWE champion Kurt Angle has featured in
many of its funniest skits. This week Angle wonderfully
impersonated Vanilla Ice look-alike (although harder looking -
perhaps due to not having an off-centre quiff) John Cena
(pictured below), his
opponent at No Mercy, with some 'streetwise' rapping,
catchphrases, dancing, etc. Angle's Cena went on to be trapped
in an ankle lock by a small Angle impersonator. |

 |
Slagging Match !
WWE's crowds love a good derogatory chant, although "you suck"
(at one time reserved mainly for Angle) has become a little bit
too commonplace. Therefore it was a special moment when midget
Angle got the crowd going with his commendable rhyme "I say Cena,
you say Weener". Simple, but damn effective.
Angle whipped Cena's candy
ass in a fierce battle. Expect retaliation! |

Wrestling? There's been some of that. New
Inter-Continental Champion (not too sure which continents) Rob
Van Dam's star is on the rise after a series of wonderful
matches against Chris Jericho and/or Christian, which involved
a breathtaking array of spectacular moves.
Due to
computer problems No Mercy has taken place since I
originally finished this column. It was a great night for
Vince McMahon with victory over Stephanie
and a
vital role in enabling Brock Lesnar to defeat The Undertaker.
He may get his comeuppance soon though,
with The Undertaker (pictured left) looking for revenge. |

|
The Rock
The Rock's new
film 'Rundown', yet to be released in the UK, went
straight in at number one in the USA box office charts.
Hopefully we will see The Rock
(pictured right with Stone Cold Steve Austin) back in the ring soon,
but if he returns it will surely only be briefly before
another film. Rumour has it that Hulk Hogan, looking to
cash in on The Rock's success, is trying to get funding
for a sequel to his nineties film 'Mr Nanny'.
Disturbingly the original apparently (I haven't seen it
and nobody can prove otherwise!) featured Hogan in a
tutu. |

Three Brothers
A
couple of e-mails have come in suggesting that my brother
Steven and I don't look alike.
This may be true, but do
all other brothers look alike? Perhaps not.....
Take the
example of wrestling brothers Spike, Bubba Ray and
D-Von Dudley
(pictured). Undoubtedly brothers, yet observe that Spike
has his hair very different to D-Von and Bubba. |

No download of my brother
and I discussing wrestling this time. I said there would be,
but lied. Maybe next time though. |
|
Enjoy the wrestling.

Roger's Featured Wrestler of the Month - Goldust |
 |
GOLDUST
Height:
6 foot 6
Weight:
250 pounds
Finishing Move:
The Golden Globes
Career Highlights:
Intercontinental Champion; WWE World Tag Team Champion; Hardcore
Champion
Goldust is part of the Raw WWE fighters seen on Sky Sports
Friday Night.
Goldust had an impressive
run in WWE during the late 90s. The lights are once again
shining on Goldust, but he won’t consider them to be shining
bright enough until he stands alone on top WWE.
Roger's Prediction ;
Goldust will continue to be a reasonable wrestler, but will never
be able to challenge the top WWE superstars such as Kurt Angle,
Triple H, Brock Lesnar or Goldberg. |
