Kino

+ Credo

Herringthorpe Leisure Center
Rotherham

15 April 2006

It was ten years since Silhobbit had visited a Classic Rock Society concert in Rotherham, but it seemed like a family reunion such was the friendly atmosphere created by chief Martin Hudderson and his crack team of helpers.
The venue was packed to the rafters and Credo went down well with the crowd, many of whom sang along.

Not knowing any of the band’s set it is difficult to review them other than to say the audience gave them good applause and I was impressed by their playing and very impressed with their front man, Mark Colton, who looked at ease with singing to such a large crowd.

I recognised the talented ex-Shadowland keyboarder Mike Varty who claims he also plays in Landmarq.

Credo are certainly worth a listen and they are also top blokes and friendly blokes too.

Check out Credo at their website www.credo.gb.com

K I N O !

If you’ve not heard any Kino then where have you been?

As a studio band they were made up of the four coolest bands in rock;
It Bites, Marillion, The Urbane and Porcupine Tree.

The additional talents of master drummer Bob Dalton means that 50% of the band are made from It Bites, and that is great news for music lovers.

Bob's drumming really kicks ass!

Kino fucking rock!

Bob strolled on stage first and bashed out a solid beat on his own.

Then moments later Pete strolls onto the stage, picks up his bass and riffs along with Bob’s bass.

Next comes John Mitchell who sticks a “fuck you” finger to the audience before joining the rhythm section with his metal chugging guitar.

John Beck gets massive applause as he finally joins in the beat that Bob started less than a minute ago.

I’m loving it as they riff for a while before launching into ‘People’ !

Brilliant way to open a gig.

This review will let the photos do the talking, as I’m too hung-over to write a song-by-song account of what happened.  Call me lazy if you want because I'm not bothered. You should be grateful for these pictures and that this website is free, unlike many of the websites which charge for photos and downloads.

The Kino website is at www.kinomusic.com/ and they have a MySpace page at www.MySpace.com/kinomusic

All I will say is that the band stormed their way through most of their debut ‘Picture’ album and threw in some It Bites (Plastic Dreamer and Kiss Like Judas), Marillion (Sugar Mice), and a song by John Mitchell’s own band The Urbane (12).

Ooo, they also treated the crowd to a bit of the It Bites classic ‘Calling all the Heroes’ – how the crowd would love to have seen them play the whole song!

They must’ve played for nearly two hours and when they finally left the stage the eager audience begged for more and got the encore they deserved for being such passionate fans.

Fifteen years ago the CRS was strictly for men only.

Then they let in women to increase membership and now even pregnant women are allowed to attend and there is even talk of breast-feeding being allowed in the girls' toilets.

Martin Hudderson has had to move with times and next month will see the introduction of ‘Kosher’ food in order to attract jews into what was 20years ago a society run by masons.

How things have changed. They even have a "fancy Dan" website now at www.classicrocksociety.net/

The Classic Rock Society’s future looks in the balance as a dirty American takeover looks certain and the society may have to adapt further as the new owners alter this fantastic organization that is run by fans of the music for fans of the music.

If you want to support Classic Rock then you’d best unite - join hands and join up. If you don't then brilliant bands like Kino will become a thing of the past with no outlet. Without things like the CRS and Silhobbit.com there is little hope for our children.

I’d like to thank CRS, Martin Hudson and the bands for putting on a cracking show. I even got to meet the band afterwards and tell them how good they are!

Kino kick serious arse in the studio, but live they will kick your arse so much that you won’t be able to sit for a week.

9/10 for a rocking show and fantastic night !
