A fter
their "shocking" performance in Rotherham on Saturday, Cynthia
and me went over to St Albans to see how the crowd at
The Horn would react to Threshold's drummer Johannes James'
other band Kyrb Grinder. We were prepared for many things,
however, we weren't prepared for a venue that sticks the headline band
on first - and they were awful, cock-rock at it's most basic.
Their friends and family packed crowd loved them to bits, so much so
that when the band went to the bar next door, they all followed their
"heroes"So by the time Kyrb Grinder hit the stage, the crowd had thinned out like the hair on Tracy Hitchens back. Still, the handful of us who were left were treated to a spectacular show! Johanne's drumming combined with his forceful aggressiveness being a thing that you all have to see, hitting the skins with skill and precision, love and anger, whilst staring at the crowd, daring them to move. One guy was desperate for the toilet, but too scared to go, so he did, where he stood. It wasn't pretty. New guitarist Dave Dart fitted in really well, so well that I didn't realise he was new, and bass player Dave Lugay supported Johanne superbly, and strode above the sound himself sometimes. The lack of crowd never bothered the band, and JJ later described it as "a paid rehearsal". They played quite a few tracks from their demo CD available for £3.00 (I think) by emailing Sherry Nicholls on Leavesofmusic@aol.com See
